Blob's Park

Blob's Park was a German-style beer hall that opened in 1933 in Jessup, Maryland. It was the "Home of America's First Oktoberfest". It permanently closed its doors in 2014.

Founder Max Blob came to the United States in 1893, at age 10 together with his parents Katherine and Phillip Blob and two younger brothers, John and Henry. When Prohibition ended, Max opened a Bavarian style beer garden in 1933, and held the first American Oktoberfest in 1947. After his death in 1969, his family kept the hall going, and it stayed a beloved drinking and polka dancing venue for another 45 years.
